Oil & Gas - Water Quality, Permitting, Design, & Construction

Before an oil and gas well can be drilled, a permit must be acquired. This map charts regulations that apply to well site permitting, designing, and planning that impact action before any dirt has been moved. The map compares regulations for baseline water source testing requirements; siting restrictions of wells, pits, tanks, and injection wells; filing storm water and erosion mitigation plans; and reclamation plans. It also compares the notification process for oil and gas operators.

This dataset includes law for 17 states and federal rules for lands and minerals managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the U.S. Forest Service, current as of November 25, 2015.
